Some people with painful marriages consider their partner a ball & chain. I'm happily married, and consider myself voluntarily and cheerfully bound at the wrist. Our children are a connection, our shared finances, our vehicles (we own two cars), our home, and so on. These things in common give us shared concerns, and as long as we remain a team we can handle them together. We don't have everything in common: we have very different careers, different taste in music, and so on. But when we're together we focus on what we have in common, and enjoy that very much.

Bound Together
